September Long Weekend.

Monday, October 18, 2010

Anna, Roxy (my dog), and I went to the mountains during the September long weekend. Most of the time was spent along the Icefields Parkway, for the night we slept in the car. We got to this location late at night  (below the empty mark on the gas gauge)  and set up the car to sleep.  The first shots I took were from Lower Waterfowl Lakes. I knew it would be a good spot for the sun lighting up the eastern facing mountain range. I believe the tall peak is Mt. Chephren. I woke up about an hour and a half before sunrise to scout of compositions with the help of my flashlight.  Started shooting here before the sun came up with some long exposures and then the light finally started to hit the mountain. I shot a bunch of compositions, mostly in panoramic style. The picture here is an eight image stitch. I took a shot with graduated filter to hold back the sky, and then shot a photo without the filter for foreground and detail in the mountains, then shifted the camera over. Met a nice English lady and we had a good chat while I was shooting.

This was a fun trip… despite our lack of gas (twice) hehe
So glad you woke me up so that we could take photos here together with Roxy!

Beautiful shot as usual Mike 🙂
